Google has expanded its AI-powered virtual try-on feature to include footwear, allowing users to see how shoes would look on them before making a purchase. This enhancement builds upon the existing clothing try-on tool, which has been available since July 2025. The new shoe try-on feature is currently rolling out in the United States and will soon be available in Australia, Canada, and Japan.
How It Works
To use the virtual shoe try-on feature, shoppers can tap on any product listing in Google Search, select the “Try It On” button, and upload a full-length photo of themselves. Google’s AI then generates a realistic image of how the selected shoes would look on the user’s feet.
The system does not require pictures of the user’s feet, as it can generate realistic representations automatically.
This feature allows users to visualize how different pairs of shoes—such as sneakers, heels, or sandals—would look on them, helping to answer the common question, “Can I pull off these shoes?”
Global Expansion
The virtual try-on feature for clothing has been expanding internationally, and now the shoe try-on tool is also set to reach more countries. In the coming weeks, users in Australia, Canada, and Japan will be able to use the feature to virtually try on shoes.
Future Developments
Google’s AI-powered virtual try-on tools are part of a broader effort to enhance the online shopping experience. The company has also introduced an experimental app called Doppl, which uses AI to show how different outfits might look on users. Built on the same generative AI technology as the virtual try-on feature, Doppl offers a more immersive styling experience and helps shoppers refine their personal style.
